March 10, 2012 - PRLog -- In December 2011, Onda announced the Onda Vi40 Elite Edition Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) tablet PC.  Many people wanted to get their hands on the first 9.7" IPS tablet to run ICS.  The Vi40 also has other great features that seperate it from its competitors, namely, the JXD S9000.

Both tablets have aluminum housing, 9.7-inch high resolution capacitive IPS ten points touch screen and the Many Core A10, ARM Cortex A8 1.5GHz processor, built-in 16gb and Android Market pre-installed.

The main difference is the Onda has an upgraded 5.0 mega pixel front camera, 1.2mp back cam, compared to the JXD built-in 2.0MP back camera and 0.3MP front camera.

Another big difference between the two units is the operating system.  The JXD S9000 does not run Android 4.0 yet. It only runs Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread. It is supposed to be upgradable soon.

The JXD S9000 is slightly heavier than the Onda. It only weighs 641 grams and is only 10.1mm thick.  It has a built in 7800mAh lion battery for around 8 hours of usage on a single charge.

The Vi40 Elite on the other hand only weighs 620 grams and is slightly thicker (10.3mm). It also has a smaller 5800mah battery which has 25 days stand by time, 7 hours gaming time.

The S9000 has HDMI port, microSD card slot, mini USB port 3.5mm headphone jack, one speaker and OTG. The Vi40 Elite has the same ports but also has a built-in microphone and two loud speakers.

My overall impression between the two units is this. The S9000 is a budget tablet for those who want a feature rich tablet that closely resembles the iPad 3 and has 9.7" capacitive screen.  You would have to upgrade to Android 4.0 yourself once the firmware upgrade was released.

The Onda Vi40 does not look like the iPad 3 but has just as many features, including the 5 mega pixel camera and dual speakers. It runs the latest version of Android. In addition, the Vi40 has a more rugged build, has a better feel, and is Aesthetically more pleasing.  It does cost around $20 more than the S9000 ($244.99).  That being said, it s more than 1/2 the price of the iPad 3.
