By: Frank Groff Inc One of the largest recycling enterprises on the West Coast, SA Recycling gathers, shreds, shears and sorts metal from cars, appliances, old bridges, railroad cars and other large-scale items. The metal is then shipped overseas where it is melted down into new steel and repurposed. To ensure that the process is environmentally sound, SA Recycling introduced the following: · Air Purification System: Including a custom made dust collector, regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO) and scrubber; this air purifying and pollution control system uses the best available control technology, and was installed pursuant to a permit issued by the South Coast Air Quality Management District. SA Recycling became the first company in the United States to utilize this cutting edge technology in an automobile shredder. · Storm Water Management Program: SA Recycling installed the most complex water treatment facility in the port for its storm water management program, which gathers and purifies run-off rainwater, recycles and reuses it in its processes. · Electric Shredders: SA Recycling installed a clean all-electric 9,000 HP shredder, one of the largest and most efficient on the West Coast. · Industry-First Sorting System: Once the metal is shredded, it is processed through a state-of-the- “We are constantly striving to develop new technologies and serve as a good neighbor in the community," said SA Recycling CEO George Adams.
