Chase Private High Schools ct Student Research Selected

March 9, 2012 - PRLog -- Waterbury, CT--Amanda Senanayake, of Brookfield, was one of a small number of Chase private high schools ct students chosen to present her research at the 49th Connecticut Junior Science and Humanities Symposium at the University of Connecticut. The symposium, a noncompetitive poster session, will be held on March 11 and 12, 2012.

The Chase Collegiate junior determined the caffeine content in green tea by applying newly developed methods using state of the art Analytical Chemistry technologies (HPLC, LC-MS and UV). The experimental results indicated that the steady state of the caffeine concentration of green tea was reached at 25-30 minutes. Senanayake conducted her research during a 2011 summer internship at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, where she was mentored by Dr. Zhanna Yuabov. She also received support for her experiment from her advisors at Chase Tomas Kopecky, Science Department Chair, and Dr. Jeff Terwin, Head of the Upper School.
