All Proceeds to Go to Student Financial Aid

White Plains, New York (March 2012)  Archbishop Stepinac High School will honor alumnus John P. Cahill (Class of ’77) with its Distinguished Graduate Award at the second annual Trustees Awards Reception, to be held 5:30 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, May 8, at 42 The Restaurant, One Renaissance Square in downtown White Plains.

Also to be honored will be:
• Bleakley Platt & Schmidt, a prominent law firm, Partners in Education Award
• Hudson Valley Bank, one of the region’s leading banks, Corporate Citizenship Award
• Paul Carty, Stepinac Principal, Student Enrichment Award

William P. Harrington, Partner, Bleakley Platt & Schmidt and James J. Landy, President and CEO, Hudson Valley Bank, will accept the awards on behalf of their businesses. (See page 3 for background of honorees).

Some 400 guests are expected to attend the event, the proceeds of which will go to  providing financial aid and scholarships for Stepinac students. The cost is $250 per person with multiple sponsorships available. Reservations can be made by April 23. Because the event is very popular and tickets go quickly, it’s recommended that reservations are made early.

The Trustees Awards Reception recognizes distinguished alumni, faculty and supporters as well as raises funds for enhancing Stepinac’s educational and athletic programs. The inaugural reception last year played a key role in the school’s successful Team Up for Turf campaign that financed the cost of equipping Stepinac’s athletic field with state-of-the-art artificial turf.

William F. Plunkett, Jr. (’58), Chairman of Stepinac’s Board of Trustees, said: “We are honoring a stellar group of individuals and businesses. John Cahill is certainly one of Stepinac’s most distinguished alumni as a former commissioner of New York State’s Department of Environmental Conservation and Chief of Staff to Governor Pataki and who today continues to serve a leadership position on domestic energy issues.”

He added: “Hudson Valley Bank and Bleakley, Platt & Schmidt are being recognized for the outstanding banking and legal services they have provided Stepinac over the years. The Trustees are also showing their appreciation for the contributions that Paul Carty has made to Stepinac for the past 18 years, first as a teacher and then as its principal. Under his inspired direction, the school’s bar of academic excellence has been significantly raised, helping Stepinac to remain one of the nation’s 50 top Catholic High Schools.”

Father Thomas Collins, Stepinac President, stated: “The Trustees Awards Reception has emerged as the year’s biggest fundraising event for Stepinac. We have set a crucially important goal of using all proceeds to increase financial aid which will make it possible for deserving students to continue their education.  I am confident that the generosity of our alumni and Stepinac’s many supporters will again make it possible for our school to continue to fulfill its mission of preparing tomorrow’s leaders.”

An extensive array of valuable prizes will be raffled including tickets to NY Giants, NY Yankees games, a Broadway show, dining at top restaurants and an Ireland Package in Dublin (including tickets to see the Notre Dame vs. Navy game, transportation, lodging and golf).

For reservations, call Paul Thomas at 914 946-4800, Ext. 245 or pthomas@stepinac.org.
