When considering Outer Banks homes for sale, retirees often discover quickly that the North Carolina Outer Banks is a perfect place for winding down and relaxing.  Picturesque beaches and dynamic sunrises only viewable from an eastern coastline have long called to those who seek a place of calmness and serenity.  Hatteras realtors like the NC Real Estate Brokers at The Dean Agency  have helped clients find historical points of interest and some of the country's most elegantly groomed golf courses which continue to add to the blend of amenities that make the Outer Banks the preferred destination for anyone seeking an enriched yet “laid-back” lifestyle.

However, the Outer Banks has another avenue for enjoyment that hardly calls for keeping still.  Runners from all over have discovered North Carolina's beaches as a destination for health enthusiasm. All of the same features that are so attractive to people looking just to relax have just as much appeal for those looking for a place to “get up and go.”  Themed runs for various charities include everything from 5K “fun runs” and walks all the way to events called ultramarthons, which challenge participants to run for up to 100 miles over the course of several days.  Foreclosures in Nags Head, Corolla, and other enviable Outer Banks areas are making it so that these athletes can find running events happening literally right in their back yards.

The Graveyard 100 Ultramarathon is one such event, set to occur March 10th and 11th, starts in Corolla, NC and follows a beach road, NC Hwy 12, for 100 miles all the way to the Graveyard of the Atlantic museum.  The incomparable Nags Head Wood Conservatory provides the backdrop for a 5K run/walk on March 17th, taking participants through Nags Head and Kill Devil Hills.  April 21st and 22nd will bring what may be the most unusal running experience yet: the half-marathon celebrates pirates as historical figures with the participants and spectators encouraged to dress in pirate costume!

Many more runs and walks are set to be held all the way through November, 2012.  Participation fees range from zero to $65.00, with many fees going to various charities sponsored by Outer Banks philanthropic organizations.  Information and registration for these events can be attained by visiting
www.obxmarathon.org and www.outerbanks.org/events.   To find real estate for sale in Outer Banks areas like Hatteras, Nags Head, and Corolla, visit www.thedeanagency.com.  Event participants can arrange to view property while in the area by contacting one of our NC Real Estate Brokers at The Dean Agency  or calling 1-866-340-1166 ext. 207 to schedule a showing of their favorite properties that is convenient to their event schedule.
