March 9, 2012 - PRLog -- In various forums, the question is often asked who or what is next?  Who will be the next Mike Tyson in boxing?  Who will be the next Ronald Reagan in the world of politics?  Who will be the next Albert Einstein in the field of science?  Automotively speaking, the question is who or what will represent the hobby deep into the 21st Century?  That question, to some depth, will be answered in 2012 as part of multiple special attractions at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds and the 10 events that encompass the Carlisle Events season schedule.

Spring Carlisle launches the 2012 season and will showcase the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow.  The program is industry supported and features high school aged tech students working as a team to tear down and reassemble a small block Chevy.  The competition isn’t just against one another; it’s against a clock and under a strict set of guidelines.  Last year, more than 1 million dollars in scholarship money was doled out in total, including more than $55,000 at Carlisle alone.  In addition, the competition sees regional winners advance to the finals in Las Vegas at the annual SEMA show.

Another major focus at Carlisle during select events is the “Young Guns.”  This program, in existence since 2008, is designed to group likeminded youth, ages 16-25 in one area to provide a forum exclusively for them.  “Young Guns” at Carlisle allow the licensed drivers to showcase their vehicles in a parked-by-class setting and takes place at the Chrysler Nationals, Ford Nationals and GM Nationals.  At each event, awards are made available to the participants, while introducing them in a more structured way to a showfield environment.

New to Carlisle in 2012 is a feature that will undoubtedly spark the interest of both the youth audience as well as the adult crowd.  The Clarion County Career Center is located in Shippenville, Pennsylvania and is responsible for six very unsuspecting customized trucks.  Obtained via donation or loan, the Diesel Technologies class, comprised of 15-18 year old students, tears down the truck to its frame and builds it back up.  As an added bonus, trucks are customized and shown at the Mid-American Truck Show in Louisville, Kentucky.  Following the show, trucks are either returned to their owner or sold off with proceeds going back into the school.  CCCC, their students, instructor and at least three rigs will be on display during the Truck Nationals, August 3-5.

With the aforementioned entities confirmed for Carlisle in 2012, the Carlisle Events staff is working on an exciting feature for future events.  McPherson College in Kansas offers an array of academic programs, but the one that best fits at Carlisle is its Automotive Restoration department.  McPherson is the only accredited institution in the world to offer a four-year Bachelors degree in automotive restoration.  A key to the success of the students and the McPherson program is that the students attend events nationwide, such as those at Carlisle, where they can experience the full scope of the strong and vibrant collector car hobby.  According to Amanda Gutierrez, Vice President for Advancement at McPherson, “we want young people to learn not only about the preservation of the vehicle itself, but also the rich, social and cultural history that each car represents.”

In all, Carlisle Events strives to provide a forum for not only the future of the automotive industry, but for its past and present.  Because of that, each of the 10 Carlisle based shows embrace a certain aspect of the industry and whenever possible, showcase it for the nearly half a million enthusiasts who travel to Pennsylvania’s Automotive Hometown throughout the season.
