Massage Therapists nationwide to boycott advertisers on "The Client List"

March 9, 2012 - PRLog -- Through a network of social media and professional organizations, tens of thousands of Massage Therapists nationwide will be launching a boycott of advertisers on the show "The Client List" on Lifetime Television.

"The Client List" is a new series that starts airing April 8th on Lifetime Television. Massage Therapists are upset that the show perpetuates the misconception that Massage Therapy includes inappropriate sexual contact. Massage Therapists are trained healthcare professionals and in 38 states (and D.C.) are licensed and regulated by state medical boards. They adhere to a code of ethics and in some cases are under higher ethical standards than other healthcare professionals - because of these very same misconceptions. Many therapists work in doctor's offices and hospitals and are providing valuable therapeutic services. The Client List blatantly portrays a desperate mom that becomes a legitimate massage therapist -- only to find that sexual favors are the norm at her spa.

Massage Therapists will be asking all of their clients to join them in the boycott by passing out fliers that list all of the advertisers that appear in the first show. They will also solicit support from local media throughout the country to help spread the word. With over 300,000 licensed and trained Massage Therapists in the country, THEIR Client Lists represent millions of men and women who share in their concern over this misrepresentation of massage therapists as prostitutes.
