March 8, 2012 - PRLog -- Television and film producer Nina Houlihan never dreamed that she would realize her goals of working in the film industry. A native of Boston, Houlihan studied Sociology at the University of Massachusetts but discovered her passion to be storytelling and took a leap of faith when she flew to Los Angeles and decided to take a chance on a dream. Shortly after arriving, Houlihan met with Action On Film Festival creator, Del Weston, who was looking to produce a new series pilot called Streets of Gold while also wrapping up production on the first season of his NBC Show, the AOF Channel.

Weston says, “Nina had an infectious personality, an incredible amount of drive and desire, and a dedication to her dream that I rarely see. We brought her in during the 2011 festival and worked with her on the AOF Channel as well. Both were excellent experiences.”

Longtime Action On Film coordinator, John Buchan says, “Nina was pretty amazing. She handled everything that we threw at her and was a natural. After six years of working on the festival myself, to see someone take on all the roles that she did was very impressive.”

Shortly after the wrap-up of Season One of the AOF Channel, EFC Films, the company that produces the AOF Festival, began pre-production on a pilot called the Streets of Gold. Weston immediately contacted Houlihan, who had in a very short period of time established her own company, Nina Houlihan Consulting. The two agreed to work together and the show pilot was finished in less than two months.

The Streets of Gold centers around a Middle Eastern businessman and speculator who comes to America to buy the whole country. It is a dry, black comedy series in the vein of the Louis CK show and The League, but features Middle Eastern characters and personality blending with American culture and society.

Houlihan says “As soon as I read the script, I knew I wanted to be a part of the production. It is so rich and diverse that it will give a new look into the insights behind the relationship between the Middle East and America.” She went on to say, “It's pretty hilarious as well.”

Not only is the Massachusetts native taking on the indie world by storm, but in 2012, she will begin her stint as Festival Director for the eighth annual Action On Film International Film Festival.

Weston says, “Film is forever revolving, moving, and changing. We feel very strongly that new blood is required to keep us on the cutting edge of what filmmakers and writers who submit to the AOF are expecting. Miss Houlihan is that new blood. She fits seamlessly into our established system and works tirelessly to achieve our goals of excellence.”
