Ross Medical Education Center Launches New Pharmacy Technician Program at 7 Locations in MI, IN & OH

March 8, 2012 - PRLog -- MICHIGAN/INDIANA/OHIO - Ross Medical Education Center (www.RossEducation.edu) will immediately begin enrolling prospective students in the school’s new Pharmacy Technician program, which will be offered in Michigan at the Brighton and Davison campuses; in Indiana at the Fort Wayne and Granger campuses; and in Ohio, at the Cincinnati, Niles and Sylvania campuses.

This new program marks an expansion of offerings for the allied health school, which has twenty campus locations in three states. Additional programs vary by location, but can also include Medical Assisting, Dental Assisting and Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration.

About the Pharmacy Technician Program
The Pharmacy Technician program is thirty-six weeks in length. Thirty weeks are focused on lecture and practical skills. The remaining six weeks consist of a thirty-hour per week externship.

By the end of the program, students will be able to assist pharmacists in processing prescriptions and be able to identify, measure, and supply pharmaceutical products that have been ordered by a medical doctor. Additional duties include verifying prescriptions for completion and accuracy, handling telephone inquiries and answering questions that do not require a pharmacist’s expertise or judgment, as well as preparing and labeling medications for patients. Duties may vary based upon whether the pharmacy tech is located in a retail or hospital setting. Upon successful completion of all requirements, graduates will receive a certificate from Ross.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth for Pharmacy Technicians is expected to grow by thirty-one percent through 20181.

Get Certified!
Certification for Pharmacy Technicians is required for employment in many states, and many states require a Pharmacy Technician to register with their respective state board of pharmacy. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the National Certification Examination for Pharmacy Technicians (CPhT) offered by the Pharmacy Technicians Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
