Aintree NHS Selects RES Software for Desktop Management and Service Improvement

Trust to benefit from RES Dynamic Desktop Studio through improved IT service delivery and context aware access

March 8, 2012 - PRLog -- Frimley, UK – 8th March 2012 – RES Software, the proven leader in dynamic desktop solutions, today announced that Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Aintree NHS) has chosen RES Dynamic Desktop Studio to manage and control desktop settings and personalisation for its entire user base of around 3,500 staff. RES Software will help the Trust provide a consistent desktop experience for users wherever they happen to be logging in from, while also enabling improved performance and reducing costs for support.

Aintree NHS initially approached RES Software to help the Trust reduce log-in and log-out times for clinical staff accessing PCs. After learning more about Dynamic Desktop Studio, the Trust’s IT team chose to widen the scope of the project to include improving user experience. This implementation is now part of the Trust’s wider initiative to improve service delivery and make IT more responsive to the needs of its users. This includes managing access to applications and printers dynamically, so users always have the right settings, services and software available to them wherever they are logging in from.

Ward Priestman, director of ICT services at Aintree NHS said, “Our clinical staff are dependent upon information technology and work in a time-sensitive environment, the time taken to access resources is critical. They work across all areas of the campus and It was therefore important that the time taken to log into PCs did not hinder staff supplying the best possible patient care. With RES Software, we have not only reduced log-in times for clinicians and provided them with access to their individual resources when they need it, but also improved the overall delivery of IT services to the whole organisation.”

Aintree NHS is also currently planning its move to Microsoft Windows 7 across the Trust. RES Software will play an important role in this transition, as Dynamic Desktop Studio allows the IT team to separate user settings and data away from the underlying device and infrastructure. Each user's settings can then be applied to the device that they are using at any given point, whether this is one that has been moved over to Windows 7 or remains on Windows XP.

Steve Jackson, Vice President Channels and Strategic Alliances for RES Software commented, “Doctors, nurses and consultants all rely on IT assets to treat patients; they want to concentrate on providing care rather than on how to use IT. RES Dynamic Desktop Studio helps the IT team at Aintree NHS make access faster and personalised, so that each member of staff gets the tools that they need to be productive based on their context. This includes automatically provisioning the appropriate applications, settings and printer access so that staff get exactly what they need, where they need it."

At Aintree NHS, RES Dynamic Desktop Studio gives each user their own personalised desktop experience wherever they happen to be within the Trust.
As NHS Trusts consider how to manage access to confidential information in both physical and digital form, RES Software helps make this process simpler by controlling settings based on the user's context. This can include disabling USB access where it is not required, or ensuring that the right printers are used, rather than sending sensitive information somewhere else in the network.

RES Dynamic Desktop Studio provides a complete solution for managing a user’s settings, personalisation and configuration from a central point. Users’ personal settings, applications and access rights can all be delivered automatically to any desktop or device, regardless of delivery platform, providing a better user experience and greater control for the IT team. Made up of RES Workspace Manager and RES Automation Manager, Dynamic Desktop Studio provides organisations with fully flexible and dynamic desktops across their current infrastructure and supports future changes with their IT environment.
