The theme, which features a sports-inspired “rock orchestra” along with the sounds of a stadium chant, will brand this rising sport into the foreseeable future.
“It’s such a huge honor to score the theme music for Major League Soccer on NBC,” said Cody Westheimer. “I am consistently fascinated by how appropriate music can enhance the viewing experience of sporting events, especially the opening titles. Setting that emotional tone and taking the music to the highest possible level was an exciting challenge that I embraced wholeheartedly.”
Westheimer’s composer credits in the sports world include the theme for the 2011 Tour de France on NBC and Versus, and several sports themed documentaries such as “The Runner,” “Spinning Southward,” “Ultramarathon Man and “Take a Seat: Sharing a Ride Across America,” a 10 part episodic series on the Universal Sports Network.
An accomplished age group athlete himself, the Los Angeles resident participated in the 2011 Ironman World Championship in Hawaii and self documented the triathlon. His video reached almost 25,000 views in two weeks. Other notable credits include: Independent feature “Conception,”
NBC Sports Network launched January and is set to kick off MLS’ season on March 11. The network will reach approximately 76 million U.S. homes.
