Mentoring services to children in foster care has proven to be beneficial, so what are we going to do about it?

Philadelphia, PA – Gathered Dreamz, Inc is the first organization in the Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey area to specifically offer mentoring services to girls and young women ages 6-18 who are currently in foster care. Many studies have proven the powerfulness of a mentor in the lives of children in the foster care system. There are not enough current organizations addressing the issue.
Gathered Dreamz, Inc envisions a community in which every girl and young women, whether in or aging out of foster care, can experience nurturing one-to-one relationships and community support. This will allow each of them to develop to their full potential and capable of making informed, responsible decisions as involved members of our community.
Offering one-to-one and group mentoring services is just the beginning of the life changes that will occur in each child served. Group mentoring activities include:

•   Development of higher self-esteem
•   Life skill building
•   Developing sustainable relationships
•   Developing trust
Significance has been placed on the services offered to the young women, ages 15-18, to assist them as they transition out of the foster care system. They will face a special set of circumstances and Gathered Dreamz, Inc recognizes the issues they will face and have developed a special program for them.
It is imperative for girls and young women to know they are somebody. Being in the foster care system isn’t something a child asks for, and they should not suffer. Foster children are faced with a number of additional obstacles that most children are not dealing with. The development sustainable relationships and being able to trust adults are just two of those barriers. This is why girls and young women need Gathered Dreamz, Inc. They need to feel wanted and appreciated and that is where we step in.
