Young Cooks Worldwide invited to Cook With the Stars in Basque Country on Sammic Scholarship

BasqueStage, the exclusive opportunity to work with famous chefs in world class restaurants in Basque Country, opened its application process to young cooks worldwide.

March 6, 2012 - PRLog -- The semi-annual BasqueStage™, a highly successful educational project that offers two young culinary professionals field training among the star chefs in the Basque Country, has opened applications for its IV Sammic Scholarship. Applications for round 1 are due by March 31, and can be completed at http://basquestage.com.

Featured by the likes of Bon Appetit and Food Industry News, BasqueStage is a one-of-a-kind program that funds a stage, from travel to housing and expenses, at prestigious Basque restaurants. BasqueStage alumni have gone on to stage at other world-class restaurants and work hand-in-hand with the world’s most starred chefs. Previous and current scholars include Tracy Chang, Athena Thickstun, Cameron Rolka, Marco Bahena, Elisha Ben-Haim and Ruth Selby.

This IV edition will be another collaboration with Michelin-starred, world-acclaimed Chef Martín Berasategui. The stages work at his three-star restaurant in Lasarte, Spain, just outside of San Sebastián in the Basque Region of Spain. Located on the north coast of Spain, the Basque Country is regarded as one of the world’s top culinary destinations.

The jury that chooses the two winners includes such culinary luminaries as Daniel Bouloud, Thomas Keller, and Pedro Subijana. Thirty finalists will be announced on April 1 at http://basquestage.com, and two finalists will be chosen according to completion of various requirements.

The project is led and sponsored by Sammic, a food service equipment company out of Basque Country, famed Chef Martín Berasategui, and DeliFunArt, a marketing firm specializing in the culinary field. Basque chef Martín Berasategui has earned almost every international culinary award, including 3 Michelin stars for his restaurant in Lasarte. In fact, the high ratio of Michelin stars to population is partially due to his nurturing of other young chefs.

Sammic is one of Europe’s leading designers and manufacturers of Foodservice Equipment, specializing in Food Preparation, Food Preservation, and Hot Temp Ware Washing. Longtime technological partner of chef Martín Berasategui and based only 30 kilometers away from his restaurant, this 50-year-old company has just started operations in the US.
