March 6, 2012 - PRLog -- Joe Gaydos, wildlife veterinarian and chief scientist of the SeaDoc Society, a marine research organization headquartered on Orcas Island, will be dissecting the head of killer whale L-112, a female who washed up dead on the coast of southern Washington in February. The live dissection takes place at 9am on March 6, 2012.

The dissection will be streamed live on UStream at http://www.pokethedeadthing.com/?page_id=7. The broadcast is made possible by Scott Veirs of Beam Reach, Joe Gaydos of the SeaDoc Society, the Whale Museum, and Friday Harbor Labs.

The whale, a 3-year old Puget Sound L pod Orca known as Sooke, was found dead on the shore at Long Beach, WA, on February 11, 2012,.  While her death was a tragic event for Sooke and her pod, it is also an opportunity for us to learn more about the threats faced by the Salish Sea’s resident Orca pods.
