This year’s keynote speaker will be Laura Savini, Host/Producer, WLIW-TV and Public Broadcasting Services and President, Untamed Hair Productions. Her presentation, “From Long Island to Malibu: The Far Reach of Alzheimer’s in One Family,” includes a video of Glen Campbell, who recently went public with his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to see clips of the documentary telling the story of singer Glen Campbell’s battle with the disease. Mr. Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in December 2010.
There are 5.4 million people in the U.S. who are afflicted with Alzheimer’s. Of that number, 60,000 live here on Long Island. In the coming years, the Association expects to see a drastic increase in these numbers if a cure is not found. Currently, one in eight people over the age of 65 have Alzheimer’s disease.
