Crown Chimp Takes Home Seven Top ADDY Awards


Crown Chimp Productions, a Tucson video production company, won six Gold ADDY® awards and the Public Service Judge’s Award at the 2012 American Advertising Federation Tucson ADDY® award ceremony.

The annual event invites advertising professionals to compete in categories that award creative excellence.  Crown Chimp offered a diversity of work, winning top awards for six different video productions for five unique clients in four different industries.

“Testament”, a long-form spot for major MMA brand Clinch Gear featuring top ten world-ranked fighter Dan Henderson, won Gold for Local Broadcast.  “Home”, a travelogue piece for HSL Properties, won Gold for Internet Commercial.  The portfolio for Crown Chimp director Nickolas Duarte won Gold for Self-Promotion, Broadcast.

Crown Chimp took home two Gold awards in Cinematography, a category dedicated to the filmmaking process of advertising and commercial work. One  was awarded to their fashion film “Yuletide” for Viento Fuego and one for their self-promotional short film “What You Need”.  The latter of which previously won Best Drama at the Atlanta Short Film Festival in 2011.

“Swim”, a project for the Brute-Adidas non-profit R.E.A.C.H.E.S., won Gold for Public Service, Audio/Visual and was also selected for the Public Service Judge’s Award.  

“I’m pumped that we didn’t screw things up this year. We worked with a bunch of clients who gave us their trust and it’s fantastic to see those creative risks rewarded on multiple platforms.” said Duarte.

The black tie event, held on February 18th at the historic Fox Theatre in downtown Tucson, is the first level of a three-tier competition culminating in the National ADDY® awards to be presented this June in Austin, Texas. Crown Chimp previously won a National ADDY® for their work for Adidas  in 2010.
