March 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Is it possible to change careers in the current economy? Well not according to the dozens of blog posts left on this popular career site. Governments may be telling you you need to change careers because your old industry may not be hiring but according to dozens of comments left by job seekers, career change isn’t happening. What happens when you decide to try a new career? Well pretty much nothing according to many job seekers. But there maybe solution.

“The recruitment system doesn’t let you change careers.” explains Martin Gibbons editor of the popular blog site http://www.careerpsychometrics.com/ which has had over 1,500 comments left by job seekers in recent months.

This comments sums up the problem “ . . . .making a career change is extremely difficult. Whether I am sending my CV or completing a structured company application form, the agency or the employer are looking for experience directly linked with the job that is advertised and not skills that can be transferred from one career into another.” B Mawn.Gibbons goes on to explain, “With as many as 400 applications for a single job, employers and agencies never need to look beyond their brief. Their priority is to match the brief not find the best candidate. This is why traditional job search is useless if you are trying to change career. If you have 20+ people who meet your brief why would you look beyond that?”

Gibbons has recently published a new personality report called Career Change, which he claims provides people who what to change careers, an alternative approach to job hunting. “There are two major problems people face” explains Gibbons, “They don’t know what career they really want to do and they don’t know how to job hunt without a relevant CV. When you are changing careers you do not have a relevant CV.”

Looking through the blog comments it was clear that many people are unsure what career they should pursue. “This is why Career Change is personality centric as it helps people figure out what work environment would be most suitable to their personality type. Once they have figured out what to do, Career Change shows them how to go about getting interviews without using job boards or a CV. To enjoy sustainable success and happiness at work people must find work that is in harmony with their core personality.”

So it looks like it is possible to change careers but you just have to go about it differently. Traditional job search appears to work best if you are looking for a job similar to the one you just left. However if you fancy a change, then you need a different approach.
