March 2, 2012 - PRLog -- March is Red Cross Month …….“YOU’D LOOK GOOD IN RED”

“March is Red Cross Month” First proclaimed in 1943 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and designated again every year by all Presidents since then.

The American Red Cross is synonymous with helping people. In the United States alone, the American Red Cross responds to nearly 70,000 disasters a year providing shelter, food, emotional support and other necessities to those affected by man-made and/or natural disasters. We provide 24-hour support to members of the military, veterans and their families, even in war zones. We collect and distribute almost 50% of the nation’s blood supply and train more than 9 million people in first aid, water safety and other lifesaving skills every year.

Red Cross Month is a great time for people to come forward and support our mission. Their involvement will enable us to continue our work of relieving suffering and providing immediate needs to those affected by disasters. For nearly 100 years, United States Presidents have called on the American people to support the Red Cross and its humanitarian mission.

On March 17, ,2012 the Southeast Georgia Red Cross (Savannah, Bulloch and Brunswick) will celebrate 95 years of service to the and “You’d Look Good In Red”. The Red Cross is constantly in need of three things; financial support, volunteers and blood. This volunteer recruitment campaign will allow the Red Cross grow its capacity to serve within its 23 County service area. The Red Cross wants to recruit 100 new volunteers by June 30, 2012.  There are many ways you can help the Red Cross as a volunteer; disaster services, clerical, fundraising, public affairs and much more!

Perhaps your business wants to help out…in the Savannah area March represents “Bows About Town” the Red Cross Paint The Town Red Committee fundraiser decorates local businesses with Red Cross bows, donated by local florist John Davis. This year the bows are $95.00 to represent 95 years of service.
Our community depends on the Red Cross and since it is not a government agency, the Red Cross depends on support from the public to continue its humanitarian work. An average of 91 cents of every dollar given to the Red Cross is put back into disaster services.

Who is the Red Cross? It is you. For without the precious volunteers who deliver the services to those in need, there would be no Red Cross.
How you can help:
•         Become a Red Cross Volunteer within one of our 23 counties
•         Be a Red Cross Hero in Bulloch County
•         Purchase a Red Cross “Bow About Town” in Savannah
•         Become a Red Cross financial donor
