Now is the time to replace your home’s heating & air conditioning system - Why? Because as R-22 is phased out, the prices for R-22 will rise substantially.

March 2, 2012 - PRLog -- In 2010, the refrigerant that most consumers are familiar with, R-22, started being phased out due to the laws and regulations set forth by the EPA and the Federal Government. All manufacturers of air conditioning and heating equipment are being encouraged to produce HVAC equipment that uses the new, environmentally friendly, R-410A refrigerant.

Today's demand for R-22 is higher than what was expected in 1998 when the phase put of R-22 started.  While a number of non-ozone depleting compounds have been available for many years now, R-22 equipment is still in the majority of homes in the Southeast.

The best thing a homeowner can do for the environment and for cost-savings is to purchase a high energy-efficient system. Energy-efficient systems result in cost savings for the homeowner. Today's best air conditioners use much less energy to produce the same amount of cooling as air conditioners made in the mid-1970s. Even if your air conditioner is only 10 years old, you may save significantly on your cooling energy costs by replacing it with a newer, more efficient model. Products with EPA's Energy Star® label can save homeowners 10% to 40% on their heating and cooling bills every year,  Equipment that displays the Energy Star® label must have a minimum seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER). The higher the SEER specification, the more efficient the equipment. You should consider energy efficiency, along with performance, reliability, and cost, in making your decision.

Now is the time to replace your home’s heating & air conditioning system - Why? Because as R-22 is phased out, the prices for R-22 will rise substantially.  If you currently have an HVAC system that uses R-22 and your system develops a refrigerant leak.  Your repair costs will continue to rise as the supply of R-22 diminishes.  Jimmy Gibson, General Manager of Green Heating & Cooling says, “We’ve already seen a 300% increase in wholesale prices of R-22 in February 2012”.
