March 2, 2012 - PRLog -- The start of the Formula One racing season is nearly upon us, but for teams such as TW Steel Watches sponsored Lotus F1 it means a gruelling testing season as they try to work the kinks out of their cars in front of the public gaze.

Lotus will introduce a completely new chassis this season known as the E20.  The design is however already in to its second iteration due to technical problems encountered in testing in Jerez

The car showed well in initial testing, but later encountered problems with its front suspension.Team Principal Eric Boullier has denied talk that the front suspension issue was the result of the racing outfit pushing too hard to take weight off its design.  The components used in the redesigned suspension system weigh as much as one kilo more.

With a second period of testing now due on the car, it remains to be seen if the slight redesign can bring improvements in the quality of the ride being offered to the teams drivers.

The initial test results looks promising for the TW Steel Watches supported team. Returning to action with the upgraded E20-2 chassis the team put in a solid morning with Romain Grosjean posting a time of 1:23.959. This seems to confirm that the performance seen from the TW Steel Watches sponsored team in the first tests may prove to be consistent.

By contrast current world champions and favourites for this year’s contest,  Red Bull, saw second choice driver the Australian Mark Webber clocking a 1:23.993 to enter 5th position while Ferrari were down in eighth place with Felipe Massa.

Obviously, test performances on a limited number of laps does not compare with the full race conditions in competition with other drivers, but the outlook for the Lotus F1 squad and its drivers led by Kimi Raikonnen look good for the coming season
