Free Social / Networking / Speaker Event for Artists: dot-MATRIX

dot-art Services continues it's series of free events for visual artists to meet, create and learn. The next informal networking and information evening will take place on Wednesday 21st March 2012 from 6-8pm, in the Upstairs Bistro at the Bluecoat.
 
March 2, 2012 - PRLog -- This time, we welcome: Sara-Jayne Parsons, Exhibition Curator at the Bluecoat. Sara will be telling us about her role, how the organisation engages with artists, and offering advice for artists on developing their professional practice, as well as holding a question and answer session. Artists will also have the chance to find out what dot-art Services is planning for the 2012 and onwards, and how they can get involved.

Tickets are FREE and the event is open to all visual artists based in the region, but numbers are limited and you must register to attend. If you have any questions, please call 0845 017 6660.

About Our Speaker: Before joining the Bluecoat in 2006 as Exhibitions Curator, Sara-Jayne Parsons taught as an Adjunct Professor in Art History in the School of Visual Arts at the Unversity of North Texas. She was also Assistant Director of the University Galleries and organised exhibitions with commissioned art works featuring the work of Luis Gonzalez Palma, Whitfield Lovell, Tracey Moffatt and Wenda Gu. As an independent curator she has organised a number of exhibitions including Sprawl (Arlington Museum of Art, TX, 2004) and Liminal Britain (Trinity University, TX, 2005) and has written reviews of contemporary art for magazines such as ArtLies!, SPOT and Source. Parsons is currently completing a PhD in Art History at the University of Texas at Austin alongside  endeavours at the Bluecoat. Recent major exhibitions at the Bluecoat organised by Parsons include Janek Schaefer: Sound Art (a retrospective, 2009); Touched: 2010 Liverpool Biennial, featuring Daniel Bozhkov, Nicholas Hlobo, Carol Rama and Ranjani Shettar; Confined: The Captive and the Keeper in Contemporary life, 2011 (LOOK11 International Photography festival); and, Gina Czarnecki (2011).
