Cities fit for Cycling - for everyone

Local man with learning disabilities, in 24 hour care supported housing, wants to raise profile locally of ‘Cities fit for cycling’ as Times Newspaper campaign, by riding his own bicycle in the community and focussing on disabled riders

March 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Terry is 27 years of age and lives in Penwortham, Preston Lancashire and has been under the care of Living Ambitions since September 2011.

He has recently embarked on a Bicycle training course with the help of his support workers to highlight and support locally, the Times Newspaper’s ‘Cities fit for cycling’ National Campaign (http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/public/cyclesafety/?CMP=KNGvccp1-bike+safety)

Terry and his Support workers have between them developed a risk assessment of the local areas roads and an ID card for Terry for wear to provide information for the general public in case of emergencies. Terry also has a mobile phone at his disposal and will be wearing hi-visibility safety equipment and clothing

“It has long been Terry’s ambition to ride safely on his bike, in the areas he has grown up in” said his main support worker, Rachel, “Our support focuses on Terry’s needs and wants and is always person centred with safety in mind.” Rachel continued “Terry’s aim is to also support the Times Newspaper Campaign for safe bicycling in the cities because he believes the roads should be safe for everyone”

Terry’s aim for 2012 is to ride safely to and from Preston College, where he attends 3 days a week, studying Cooking & Dining and Photography
