March 1, 2012 - PRLog -- The Alamo Area Council Boy Scouts of America has their first Cub Scouters, Pack 70, competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition this Saturday, March 3rd, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.  The young Scouts will learn about team building and making a presentation in front of a crowd of people.  The experience will get them ready to earn their Robotics merit badge once they become Boy Scouts.

“Our Webelos start competing at 9:15 a.m.  Our Tigers, Wolves, and Bears, start their part at 11 a.m.  Andrew Schuetze, Director with the Texas Institute for Educational Robotics, has been a big help in getting us moving forward,” exclaims Patty Garza, Cub Scout Committee Chair for the Alamo Area BSA Pack 70.

“We have to get the word out to parents and kids about great programs like Robotics found within our local community.  Supporting our kids to help make all programs a fun reality is important, and I like that our kids are learning S.T.E.M. –Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, in a practical hands on way,” says Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive for the Alamo Area Council BSA.

Cub Scouts is one of the programs of the Boy Scouts of America which includes Boy Scouting, Venturing, Exploring, and Learning for Life.  Cub Scouts which involves fun with friends, leadership, and service is for youth ages 7-11.  Six year olds can also join if they have completed the 1st grade. The yearly membership fee is only $15.  Pack 70, whose charter partner is Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, meets every fourth Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Longs Creek Elementary School in the cafeteria.  For more information contact Rough Rider District Executive, Mike Dunnell at 210-296-7613 or through email at mdunnell@bsamail.org
