Additionally, in recent news reported that the City of Henderson's Police Department has settled two Civil Rights lawsuits as a result of actions by its Officers. An ongoing Domestic issue within this City's jurisdiction forces homeowner, Genie Huff to flee her home for her own safety.
Officers were summoned to the property on several occasions by Ms. Huff as she feared for her safety and believed her assailant’s threats to be real.
When insisting on assistance from the Henderson Police Department Officer Lisa Mattingly had two suggestions to remove the then illegal occupants of her property. Being forced to follow eviction laws in the State of Nevada Officer Mattingly suggested that Ms. Huff file for indigent status for the required filing fees as Ms. Huff been Unemployed since December 2010. However this would have been committing purjury thus Ms. Huff refused the Officers advice. Ms. Huff's assailant has been allowed to continue to occupy the property to wit, Ms. Huff is the sole and separate owner. This lack of Enforcement of Domestic Violence Laws in the State of Nevada has caused Ms. Huff to lose everything she owns, her home to be destroyed making it unsalvageable and well below market value.
Regardless of the fact that Ms. Huff had Safety Plan in place and did exactly as she should have the Police Officer's refused to assist her.
On one occasion Ms. Huff inquired to responding Officer L. Vukanovich badge #1621, "How bad does it have to get" Do I have to get hurt before you will do something" The Officer's response was, "Yes pretty much"
On a subsequent visit to the home Ms. Huff was nearly murdered by one of the neighborhood drug addicts. When she summoned the City of Henderson's Police Department she was dismissed and told you don't have any witnesses so nothing was done despite the fact that the assailant had just been warned by responding officers to cease and desist any and all interactions with her.
Ms. Huff has made several pleas with leadership within the Department that officers be held accountable and her attempts to file a complaint with internal affairs has been denied Ms. Huff has yet to be contacted by anyone in a leadership role within the Department.
Listed below are the badge numbers for each officer responding to Ms. Huff's residence.
Officer L. Vukanovich badge #1621, Sgt. Lisa Mattingly, badge #1089, Officer G. Rockwell badge # 1099, Sgt, M. Jaques badge #1030, Officer L. Lakteen badge # 1253, Officer R. Paul badge # 1453, Officer M. Vitangeli badge # 699, Officer A. Brunette who refused to disclose his badge #, Officer Gillis badge # 651, Sgt. Mitchell badge #916, and J. Gacek #1165.
Ms. Huff has had to insist that incident numbers be issued, insist that she be allowed to fill out voluntary statements and insist that her Civil Rights be upheld.
When will this Department begin holding Officers accountable and making them enforce the laws fairly and justly? This Department is out of control! The City of Henderson's Police Departments operations are directly overseen by the City Manager's office, why are these animals not being kept on a shorter leash?
