Feb. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- A new Crew is forming in Kerrville to give young men and women the opportunity to participate in high adventure activities such as zip-lines, mountain biking, rock climbing, off-road skateboarding, and scuba diving. This particular Venturing Crew will also involve sports, hiking, other hobbies, and service projects to benefit the community, as well as fundraising in order to pay for the activities.  “The primary focus of this Venturing Crew is to determine the interests of the local youth and then make those interests a reality,” says Amber Sizer, Alamo Area BSA’s Texas Hills District Executive.

“Venturing is actually quite an awesome program.  I go caving, scuba diving, backpacking and take wilderness survival trips every year with my crew. I get to rappel down cliffs that would probably make you cry just looking over them; and during one caving trip, my crew got lost and found a bear skeleton… which was pretty epic,” exclaims Hannah Paterka, president of the Alamo Area Council Venturing  Officer’ s Association and a member of  Crew 2407.

“We have a great number of girls participating in Scouting within both our high adventure Venturing program and career-oriented Exploring!” says Michael de los Santos, Scout Executive for the Alamo Area Council, Boy Scouts of America.

The co-ed Crew which involves fun with friends, leadership, and service is for young men and women ages 14-20. Thirteen year olds can also join if they have completed the 8th grade. The yearly membership fee is only $15 and the next organizational meeting will be Tuesday, March 6th at 6:00 PM at 1st Christian Church of Kerrville located at 1900 Goat Creek Road.  For more information contact Dr. Steve Short at 830-928-2240 or through email at stephenlshort@gmail.com
