Sugar Shane Mosley’s Diamonds Love Foundation Sponsoring Free Pomona Community Health Fair Sat

Feb. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- He's scaled every mountain there was to climb in boxing. He's fought his way to world championships at lightweight, welterweight, and junior middleweight, became known as the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing. HBO commentator and world champion Roy Jones Jr. proclaimed, after Mosley knocked out John John Molina, "He's the best lightweight in history, maybe after Roberto Duran."

Through his Foundation and Mosley Pomona Boxing Club, he seeks to bring the same level of Faith, Hope and determination that has lead him to World Championships to children's daily lives, according to Chairman of the Board Cerena Mosley-Prude “It’s start off with making sure they are healthy”. As a way of Giving Back to the Community the Mosley Family Established Diamond's Love Foundation to honor Diamond J. Johnson, his late nephew. Diamonds Love Foundation is a non-profit organization which has gained a distinguished reputation for providing support to community-based organizations in Pomona and underserved communities throughout the United States. The Foundation is collaborating with Western University of Health & Sciences on the 4rth Annual Free Pomona Community Health Fair.



Western University of Health & Sciences will provide free health screenings and information during the fourth annual Community Health Fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at the New Direction Community Church, 1100 E. Holt Ave, Pomona, Calif. 91767.


Faculty and students from the colleges of optometry, dental medicine, podiatric medicine, osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, veterinary medicine and allied health professions will provide free vision screenings; structural exams and treatment; dental screenings; foot exams; balance, strength testing and flexibility; blood sugar/diabetes screenings; blood pressure screenings; body mass index calculations; nutrition and exercise information; heart information and pet information.


The Community Health Fair is an opportunity to speak with health care professionals about various problems or concerns you might have about your health.


“Fair participants will want to arrive early, the doors will open and the screenings will begin, peoples lives could be saved, they may not have ever have known they had High Blood Pressure or Diabetes if they wouldn’t have attended said Elder Amos Young, Sr, the event Chairman and organizer for the last two years.


Diabetes is an area of growing concern in the Pomona Valley. Nationally, diabetes affects nearly 26 million Americans -- 7 million of whom are undiagnosed -- and an estimated 79 million people are pre-diabetic. Diabetes increases the risk of eye disease, kidney disease, nerve damage, foot ulcers, heart disease and stroke.


Getting information on the causes, risk factors, and warning signs of diabetes by consulting with a health care professional is a good first step. They can offer education about how diabetes is diagnosed, and steps you can take to prevent the disease.  Follow-up visits for diabetes and other health concerns can be scheduled at WesternU’s Patient Care Center.


Prescription interaction advice will also be available. Please bring all medications, vitamins and herbal remedies you are taking to get advice regarding possible interactions.


The WesternU Student Government Association, New Direction Community Church, Sugar Shane Mosley's Diamonds Love Foundation, Claremont Toyota, Valley Vista Services, State Farm Agent Nona Tirre and California State Senator Gloria Negrete McLeod are sponsoring the fair.
