Feb. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- With water rates set to rise 25% for some Prince William County residents next month, My Plumber Heating and Cooling has seen an increase in requests for its “Every Drop Counts” Water-Wise Audit for Woodbridge, Gainesville and Manassas homeowners. The program, which is applicable for both residential and commercial properties, evaluates water usage and provides recommendations to reduce water consumption and therefore save homeowners money.

“We provide the customer with a comprehensive audit report that includes recommended corrective measures to allow homeowners to protect natural resources and save money at the same time” said Phil Hopkins, Director of Operations for My Plumber Heating and Cooling.  “Where appropriate, our 32-point inspection includes retrofit recommendations which may result in an immediate payback to the homeowner”.

The ‘Every Drop Counts’ Water-Wise Audit service evolved from repeated customer requests to determine the cause of increased water usage. Over the years My Plumber estimates that it has helped save over 700,000 thousand gallons of water and thousands of dollars in utility and sewer expenses.  The American Water Works Association (AWWA) estimates that the average home uses 250 gallons of water per day.  Leaky toilets, pipes, hoses and faucets account for almost 14% of home water use, but homeowners still pay for this water.  Toilets made before 1992 use between 5 and 7 gallons per flush. By installing 1.6-gallon flush toilets, a family of four can save up to 25,000 gallons of water per year. My Plumber encourages homeowners to take simple steps to reduce water consumption by fixing leaking fixtures or pipes, modifying wasteful behavior, or installing water-efficient products.

The assessment includes a 32-point inspection on operation of all water systems on the premises and leak detection. It also provides suggestions regarding low flow toilets, water saving showerheads, faucet aerators, and more.
