Vernon, NJ – February 29, 2012 – Flocks of birds can be a nuisance on any walkway or roadway. When that roadway is actually the runway of an airport, there are even greater dangers to the birds, humans and aircraft.  

According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Wildlife Strike Database, an average of 26 bird strikes occurred daily at airports around the country between 2006 – 2010. While many of these strikes don’t disrupt a flight, cases of run-ins with birds have caused serious damage to planes costing in excess of hundreds of thousands of dollars. A recent and infamous case involving US Airways Flight 1549, caused the plane to lose both engines.
