Feb. 29, 2012 - PRLog -- Top Gear would not normally feature on our preferred viewing for Sunday evening but one of our team has teenage sons, who alerted him to last Sunday’s programme.  It featured the three presenters faced with the challenge of putting together a cheap mobility scooter to go off-road.  Once they had each put together three very different and pretty ungainly machines, they were challenged to a team race to the top of a hill by three mobility scooter-using ex-soldiers.  The soldiers chose the long way round, following tracks and paths, whilst Jeremy Clarkson and his team chose to go “route one” as they called it – straight up the hill!

The outcome was predictable; the three soldiers got to the top, not without incident, whilst only one of the Top Gear team made it, and he had tank-like tracks instead of wheels (which hadn’t been ideal when he took the mobility scooter into town earlier!).  And some recognition at least, that whilst cheap is good, more important is having the right machine for the job!

It re-enforced how important it is to choose the right mobility scooter for your needs.  There is so much variety available from portable mobility scooters, pavement mobility scooters or 8mph road legal mobility scooters and having a mobility scooter that can climb up a muddy hill is pointless if you just want to go round the local shopping centre or run down to the corner shop.  Similarly if you’re planning to do some longer trips, features like suspension can make the ride so much more comfortable.

When we came into this business; we found the vast variety of mobility scooters confusing; so we created our Guide to Mobility Scooters and our “Best For” Mobility Scooter list, which many of our customers have found useful to navigate through.  So for example, we continue to recommend our “best-selling portable mobility scooter”, the Pride Go-Go Elite Traveller, which in its Plus version has a range of up to 15 miles, and our “best selling 8mph road legal mobility scooter”, the Shoprider Cordoba which is sturdy and offers up to a 35 miles range.  And of course, to help out the Top Gear team, we recommend the TGA SuperSport as the “best for off road”.
