Feb. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- Easter Seals Tri-Counties has announced a partnership with the United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of San Luis Obispo. The leading disability non-profits will form a joint venture to serve adults and children with disabilities to open a joint pediatric therapy clinic in San Luis Obispo, California, which will also provide transportation services in Santa Barbara and Ventura County.

The Facility will include a high tech, state-of-the-art building that caters to the special needs for children within the SLO community. Easter Seals Tri-Counties has established itself as a leading non-profit provider of services for individuals with autism, developmental disabilities, physical and mental disabilities, and other special needs. The partnership with UCP - an organization that educates, advocates and provides support services to ensure a life without limits for people with a spectrum of disabilities – will create a complimentary partnership that will serve the SLO community on a larger scale.

"We respond to the needs of the community, and that's why we have decided to join forces with the United Cerebral Palsy-SLO," said Mary London, president and CEO of Easter Seals Tri-Counties. "Expanding our mission within the San Luis Obispo community will establish new, therapeutic solutions while serving various needs through a variety of programs, including physical, occupational and speech therapy, early intervention.”

The new facility will also include a full service therapy gym where kids work to develop gross motor skills and overall physical strength, and kitchen facility for infant therapeutic feeding programs. There will be a speech therapy room, where toys and books are used to promote language development; a fine motor room for developing hand skills needed for feeding and dressing as well as handwriting; and a sensory motor room, where kids use their sense of touch to gain body awareness and integrate other sensory skills.

“We are looking forward to working with Easter Seals to provide therapeutic clinic and recreational location for children and adults with developmental disabilities in San Luis Obispo County,” says Mark Schaffer, Executive Director of United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of San Luis Obispo.

Another addition to the Center also will be the incorporation iPads as a therapy tool, as each Therapist will be using advanced technology through iPad devices for instructions and lessons, as iPads have a number of apps for kids with disabilities, including autism.
