Feb. 28, 2012 - PRLog -- The Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra is completing the celebration of its 30th anniversary season with the introduction of a new logo.

The logo was created by Annaliza Borba, a 4th-year student in the Department of Art, Music and Theatre at Armstrong-Atlantic State University in Savannah, GA.     In keeping with the orchestra’s objective of supporting the development of young talented artists of all disciplines, Mary Briggs, president and CEO of the symphony orchestra made arrangements with Armstrong-Atlantic State University for students to compete in designing a logo that would be both visually captivating and representative of the orchestra’s mission and goals.

“We were searching for a logo that would reinforce our goal of being a model of innovative orchestras of comparable size across the United States,” said Briggs. “Miss Borba came up with a simply wonderful, elegant design.”     A former marching band percussionist, Borba claims she wanted the logo “to relate to both young musicians as well as experienced symphony patrons.”  She said she became inspired to pursue an icon “swoosh” that reflected the 4/4 timing pattern universally used by orchestra conductors.

She said the inspiration came while listening to a “Prince of Persia – Sands of Time” movie soundtrack.

Borba received a $300 cash prize from the orchestra which then turned her concept over to its advertising agency and pr firm for refinement and typography.  “The gracefulness of Annaliza’s design and its unique expression of orchestral music is what impressed us,” said Ms. Briggs.  “Her concept seemed so natural we were amazed that we could find nothing quite like it after checking out hundreds of other orchestra logos across the country.”

Briggs said the logo reflects the new stature Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra has recently achieved” in its transition from a community-level orchestra to what many feel is the most prominent symphony orchestra along the Carolina/Georgia Coast. A year ago the symphony signed celebrated Cincinnati Pops Orchestra conductor, John Morris Russell, as its principal guest conductor.
