California Babies Lead the Latest Trend: Eyes-Open Childbirth Hypnosis

    Hypnobabies® Childbirth Hypnosis is a complete childbirth education program that adds training in self-hypnosis. Moms use simple techniques to create natural anesthesia that works even when they open their eyes and move around, allowing them to feel comfortable while birthing.    Los Angeles Hypnotherapist Stephanie Voss teaches Hypnobabies in her Eagle Rock office. “This is not just for the home-birth crowd,” she explains. “My students are mostly educated parents with insurance who are planning hospital births – and they want to avoid medical procedures like induction and caesarian unless absolutely necessary. When their babies are born without drugs, which happens often, they are alert and ready to bond.”
    Moms enjoy the practice, which requires them to relax half an hour a day for at least six weeks. Dads or other birth partners have very specific cues they can use to help moms relax.
    Cyndi and her husband George, of Los Angeles, took the six-week course and had their little girl in 2011. They were delighted to welcome her peacefully. It was a far cry from those familiar scenes in the movies where moms are screaming at their partners. Says Cyndi,
        “Birthing was such a fantastic experience.... I so don’t get it – all those horrible stories and jokes about birthing. It doesn’t have to be that way!"
