The Gift of Hope Has a New Hero

Dr. Dana Ambler to donate free in vitro fertilization cycle to Louisiana couple struggling with infertility.

PRLog - Feb. 27, 2012 - The GIFT of HOPE, Louisiana’s only charitable program that awards an all-expenses paid in vitro fertilization cycle to one Louisiana couple each year, has a new champion. Dr. Dana Ambler, a reproductive endocrinologist who recently joined the staff of Fertility & Women’s Health Center, will be donating her medical services to this year’s lucky recipient couple of the GIFT of HOPE.

Dr. John Storment of Fertility & Women’s Health Center of Louisiana, Women’s & Children’s Hospital, and Sheridan Healthcare will once again join forces to offer the GIFT of HOPE for 2012, an annual collaboration created to help one infertile couple overcome the financial barriers to building their family through the gift of one in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle. According to Resolve, the National Infertility Association, only a quarter of healthcare insurers offer coverage for infertility care. Depending on individual circumstances, IVF typically costs between $10,000 to $15,000 per cycle. As a result, as many as 50 percent of American couples who fail to conceive do not seek treatment due to financial reasons.

“The GIFT of HOPE program was one of the things that drew me to accept the partner position at Fertility & Women’s Health Center,” said Ambler, who joined the group in 2011 after finishing her training in Pennsylvania. “I was so impressed by the giving attitude of this group of medical institutions along with such a caring and friendly community. I am looking forward to donating my time and medical expertise to this year’s deserving couple.”

Since its inception in 2006, the GIFT of HOPE has been awarded to eight Louisiana couples. Each couple was chosen from dozens of applications based on their medical needs for in vitro fertilization and their lack of financial means to pay for it. All eight couples have completed their all-expenses-paid IVF cycle with three GIFT of HOPE babies born as a result.

For additional information on the GIFT of HOPE, including eligibility requirements and stories about our past GIFT of HOPE recipients, please go to www.fertilityanswers.com or call 337/989-8795. An independent committee will review all submitted applications and select one couple to receive this gift.  The deadline to submit applications is April 27, 2012. The GIFT of HOPE will be awarded on May 7, 2012.
