“Unfortunately, in difficult times, people are often forced to make a choice between filling prescriptions and putting food on the table,” said Kay Ball President/CEO of United Way of St. Joseph County. “Now, these discount cards are cutting costs, allowing people to take care of their health needs and still provide for their families.”
In 2011, the United Way/FamilyWize partnership saved residents of St. Joseph County $492,524 by cutting the cost of medicines by an average of 31 percent. Regionally in 2011, FamilyWize Prescription Discount Cards saved residents a total of $1,172,406.
FamilyWize Prescription Discount Cards are available to people who do not currently have prescription drug coverage. There are no applications and the card is easy to use. Cardholders simply present the FamilyWize card, which can be printed from the United Way website, to almost any pharmacy at the time of purchase to receive their discount.
