PRLog - Feb. 27, 2012 - SMYRNA, Ga. -- For over 40 years, Premier Academy, Inc. has been dedicated to providing research-based, age appropriate educational instruction and developmental services to thousands of low-income children in metro Atlanta and will celebrate this success at their Anniversary Gala taking place March 24th at the Loudermilk Center from 7:30pm - 12am. Individual and group gala tickets (http://www.premier-academy.org/event_40th_anniversary.html) are available for purchase and go towards scholarships to low-income children and other critical resources for families residing in Atlanta's most vulnerable and marginalized communities.

Led by Cindra Taylor, Executive Director of Premier Academy Inc., since 1996, she is responsible for the planning and daily administration of Premier Academy's two (2) childcare centers. Under her leadership all centers have achieved accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and have maintained this status for fifteen (15) years. Taylor states, "This year's 40th Anniversary Legacy Gala is about remembering Premier's mission that focuses on the development of the total child and ensuring a curriculum that builds lessons and activities that support the long-term impact on the educational and life outcomes for children in Georgia, particularly in metro-Atlanta."

One of Premier Academy's flagship initiatives, improving early childhood literacy, is inspired by the great work of Robin H. Ferst, Founder of the Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy. Ferst is set to receive the Educator Award for her exemplary work to improving childhood literacy.  Taylor says, "I admire and commend Robin Ferst for the selfless work she has done for children, setting a sure foundation for academic success through the Ferst Foundation," she continues, "It is this kind of dedication educators look to for inspiration and motivation."

Inspired by a community program she read about in the local newspaper, Robin Ferst started the Ferst Foundation in 1999, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering literacy and creativity in pre-kindergarten children. First replicating Dolly Parton's Imagination Library project in Morgan County, Georgia, Robin strives to instill her lifetime love of reading in every child in Georgia. The program has distributed 3,000,000 books to more than 162,000 children in 159 counties.

Other award recipients, Elaine P. Draeger, CEO and President of Sheltering Arms Early Education and Family Centers will receive the Visionary Award, Pat Willis, Executive Director of VOICES for Georgia's Children will receive the Advocate Award. Premier Academy will also recognize 'King of Strings Entertainer' Ken Ford, Founder of The Ken Ford Foundation, for his outstanding contributions to youth using music as a key component with the Trailblazer Award.

Taylor reflects on the great support the Atlanta community continues to provide for Premier Academy's children.  "While I am most proud of the Premier's accomplishments during the last 40 years, our organization is constantly looking ahead to broaden the impact of our programming and services well into the future because far too many children are unprepared for academic success in Atlanta," shares Executive Director, Cindra Taylor. "By supporting Premier, you are helping to sustain our efforts to provide a quality educational program that fosters the development of children and youth and supplying essential funds."
