Capital Building Maintenance is a locally owned and operated business with headquarters and warehouse space in South San Francisco, and satellite offices and storage facilities in San Francisco. Unlike many of their national competitors, all decision-making and ownership resides locally so that customer issues and concerns can be addressed in a timely manner by personnel empowered to make decisions on the spot. CBM recently enrolled with the Green Business Bureau (GBB) to become Green Business Certified to find ways to provide more green alternatives to their environmentally conscious customers.
“We decided to join the GBB so that we could find new ways of providing green services to our clients and market the services we have been providing for years,” says Josh Diamond, CBM’s Operations Manager.
CBM was well on its way to providing green services prior to joining GBB. Diamond says the company was already using Green Seal Certified chemicals and supplies for many of its customers, has upgraded their fleet and facilities equipment to provide better energy efficiency, and has instituted an incentivized transportation sharing program for its employees. In addition, because the company does a lot of trash removal, they strive for greater than 90% recycling rate for all of their customers.
Diamond says that by joining the GBB, CBM is looking forward to finding new ways to help its clients help the environment, and make the San Francisco Bay Area greener.
“We chose the GBB over other programs because it seemed like the most widely adopted organization that would help us become the greenest Building Maintenance Company in the San Francisco Bay Area,” says Diamond.
