East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust Nurses Gain Qualifications In Teambuilding With Sundial

Feb. 27, 2012 - PRLog -- A total of 140 staff members at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust have achieved a nationally recognised qualification following a teambuilding activities program carried out at Clitheroe Community Hospital.

Facilitated by teambuilding specialists, Sundial Teamscapes, the teambuilding qualification was achieved after all staff members, split into 16 groups each completed three Teamscapes teambuilding activities over two days. The two-day event concluded with all participants from East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust gaining their certificate in Team Building with Teamscapes, which is an equivalent level of learning to an NVQ Level 2 qualification.

Commissioned by East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, Head of Organisational Development, Nichol Orton stated that the team building exercise with Sundial Teamscapes was a response to the transfer of 800 community staff into the Trust. With its sights set on on gaining independent status as a Foundation Trust with a vision to be ‘A great Trust providing the best possible healthcare to the people of East Lancashire!’ team development was identified as being fundamental to smooth integration and future successes.

Executed with four portable indoor team building activities and four outdoor teambuilding activities from the Teamscapes toolkit, the programme focused on improving communications across teams, developing individuals’ self awareness and demonstrating how individuals can operate successfully within a team.

Ms Orton said, “Teamscapes has been an exciting journey for us. We are the first NHS Trust to work with Teamscapes and yet already the differences we can visibly see are amazing. Since completing the teambuilding programme we have seen difficult, challenging characters reflecting and amending their style. So many staff developed their own self awareness. As an organisation we have learnt that the team is important but the self in team is crucial.”
