Feb. 26, 2012 - PRLog -- Austin homeowners replacing kitchen countertops with granite counters need to be prepared for the granite installation process.

Some of the problems encountered by homeowners include: shut-off valves for water that don't shut-off (plumbing problems), un-level cabinets that need to be leveled and older faucets that are designed for thinner countertops such as laminate counters.

Austin's best little granite company, http://TolucaGranite.net, listened to their customers and has released a series of articles that can help.

Some of the articles in the Getting Ready for Granite Series:

Undermount Sinks in Granite Countertops
Austin Granite Yards: What to Expect
Leveling Cabinets for Granite Countertops
Fitting a Kitchen Faucet on a Granite Countertop
Check Your Shut-Off Valves: Getting Ready for Granite Counters
Granite Countertop Height for Slide-in Range

These articles are on the Toluca Granite website at:

These articles have become very popular with area homeowners because they make getting ready for granite counters much easier.

For example, many homeowners want to re-use old kitchen faucets when they replace their old laminate counters with new granite countertops. Many older models of faucets don't work with the thicker granite counters, so one article explains how to tell if an older faucet will work, and what to look for when shopping for a new one.

Another article describes how to plan for a new slide-in range so that the lip on the outer edges of the range fits nicely with the cutout in the granite. Some slide-in ranges have levelling feet that are adjustable, but some don't adjust very much.

Another surprise Austin homeowners will want to avoid is having water shut-off valves that don't work well enough to shut the water off completely under a sink. If the water under the sink can't be shut off, then the counters can't be replaced without shutting the water off to the whole house.

All of these articles and more are included in the Getting Ready for Granite Series at http://TolucaGranite.net.
