Health, Wellness, and Weight Loss

Health is quickly becoming one of the greatest concerns of Americans. We are a very unhealthy nation because of the food we eat. How do we combat the health and obesity epidemic, by changing our life styles and the way we eat.

Feb. 25, 2012 - PRLog -- Health is an issue on the minds of many Americans.  We are an unhealthy nation.  We spend more money on health care than any other nation in the world, yet we are one of the unhealthiest nation in the world.  We have blessed our children with a shorter lifespan than their own parents.  We spend our lives being paranoid about homicide yet the three top killers of Americans today (heart disease, cancer, and stroke) are food related.  The numbers of people that are overweight and obese are climbing every year.  Two years ago the rate was sixty-six percent and now it is nearly seventy percent.  Diseases related to obesity cost Americans ten percent of their health care budget.  That is 150 billion dollars a year.  It is set to double in ten years.  Let’s face it, we just don’t have the cash to pay for that.
What is the problem?  Food, it is in our food!!  The American diet is full of chemicals, toxins, additives, and nutritionally deficient foods that are the major cause of obesity and disease.  Our food supply is said to have more than 15,000 different chemicals in it.  Some of the food we eat and give to our children is not really food.  It is a chemical blend of stuff that has no nutritional value whatsoever.  No wonder we are suffering from disease and obesity.  We eat all the wrong kind of food, our bodies crave even more of it to satisfy our needs, we over eat, and the body stores all of our empty calories as  fat.  It is a vicious cycle and the only way out is to change our life style is to start eating a diet high in nutritionally dense foods.
There are foods that were created to be what we call super foods.  They are foods that are packed with nutrition but have few calories.  One of those foods is whey protein.  Whey protein is not uncommon.  It is in five percent of the milk we drink, but it is packed full of amino acids that we need for our bodies.  It is the best protein that we can consume.  Proteins are measured in what is called a bio-availability factor.  The bio-availability factor is a measure of the amount of protein that is actually used by the body.  While proteins like soy, chicken, and red meats have a bio availability of around 30, whey protein has a bio-availability of over 100.  It also contains glutamine which is an amino acid that helps get the protein into the muscles.  Without muscle our skeleton would just be a pile of bones on the floor and with age we lose muscle mass.  The loss of muscle mass is why older people have so many aches and pains.  The ache in your back, the bad knees, and neck pains are all a result of lack of muscle to hold up the skeleton.  The muscles also release amino acids that fight disease.  That is why older people are so much more likely to get sick than people who are younger and have more muscle.
A good whey protein can fight muscle loss that leads to better health.  The kind of whey protein is also very important.  It should be undenatured or cold processed, should come from grass fed cows, should be whey concentrate and not isolate, should have a good taste, and should dissolve easily in water.  For more information on where to find a good whey protein go to my website www.wws.isagenix.com.
