February's Wild Last Winter Stand

What has been weather-wise an unusual February left with a wild weekend.

Feb. 26, 2012 - PRLog -- The weather for the last weekend in February was memorable around the nation. The Weather Channel reported regions experienced lightning strikes, the northwest received a half foot of snow, Chicago saw a rain snow mix which caused serious icing and O'Hare Airport cancelled 200 flights. South Carolina suffered tornadoes, and in many areas,  power failures were reported.

With memories of the freak Halloween storm, which left power outages in Ct. and NJ., wind gusts of over 50 mph were reported. Again some residents in Ct. experienced blackouts. Philadelphia reported downed trees and building damage.

The La Nina effect, which has affected the US and is blamed for the severe drought of 2011, will last into the spring of 2012. The US Climate Prediction Center (CPC), predicts that it will weaken and dissipate between March and May.
