By: Carmen Garzon Raqia Hassan, worrld-renowned Belly Dance Master from Egypt, will be the guest of honor at a gala dinner show and dance competition to be held in her honor. The event, organized by the World of Arts Movement Network (W.O.M.A.N.) “We are thrilled to welcome Raqia Hassan to South Florida, and have created a very special evening in her honor,” said Carmen Garzon Cordero, one of the founders of W.O.M.A.N. “This will be one of the area’s most significant and inspirational Belly Dance events of the year!” This very special event aims to educate dancers and audience members in the true art form of middle eastern dance. “It’ The $45 event price includes traditional middle eastern cuisine catered by the Al Natour restaurant located in Plantation, Florida with an appetizer, entree, dessert and beverages. The audience will enjoy two Belly Dance shows with 20 of South Florida’s top dancers. Over 200 people are expected to attend. “We’ve put together a very unique show, combining the culture, music and authentic dance routines,” said Maria Jammal, event co-host and Master Instructor, choreographer and performer. “To honor someone of Raqia’s stature, this is no ordinary event.” Raqia Hassan has over 30 years of professional experience performing folkloric and Oriental dance. She is praised as a dancer, choreographer and master teacher, considered by some to be the Queen of the Dance. Raqia now focuses her talent on teaching others rather than performing on the stage. She has trained some of Egypt’s biggest modern day Belly Dance superstars such as Dina, Dandash, Mona el Said and Randa KamaL, Aza Sherif, Nani, Nelly Fouad, Soroya and the Egyptian Amani and others.
