Single-stream recycling plant comes to Memphis

PRLog (Press Release) - Feb. 24, 2012 - MEMPHIS, Tenn. – An international recycling company, RockTenn has made its way to Memphis. The 26-thousand employee strong company is considered to be one of the largest producers of corrugated and consumer packaging in the world.

The Memphis location joins only a small handful of the company’s 39 locations offering single-stream recycling services.

This form of recycling has streamlined the process, making it easy for the masses to recycle easily and more often. The idea is rather simple—people can place all their recyclables; glass, plastic, paper, cardboard, etc, into a single bin. Previous methods of recycling forced them the separate their recyclable items by hand. This method was more labor intensive for the consumer and ultimately made recycling a less attractive thing to do.

“We are excited that RockTenn has chosen Memphis as their new home,” said Stacy Michael, Recycling Coordinator at Waste Connections Memphis (http://wasteconnectionsmemphis.com). “This plant is just one of a handful throughout the nation … their decision to come to Memphis shows the dedication that our area has for reusing and recycling.”

The 150,000 square-foot Memphis plant will be the first single-stream facility in the city's metropolitan area. It represents a key investment in RockTenn's Recycling and Waste Solutions growth plan.
