Bobby Kennedy Jr to speak at Sustainable San Diego Green Event

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and other international experts to speak at Forging a Sustainable Future at SDSU on March 3rd and March 4th

Feb. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- Environmental law professor Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. will be the keynote speaker as part of UnitedGREEN’s second Forging a Sustainable Future Symposium to be held March 3 and 4, 2012 at San Diego State University. Congresswoman Susan Davis will give the opening remarks and Congressman Bob Filner will be on a panel as will San Diego School Board member Kevin Beiser. Also appearing will be local environmental consultants and professors as well as Morgan Pitts from American University; Steven Wright of 4 Walls International will be flying in from Mexico to present information on how he is building sustainable housing south of the border; Mike Bullock of the Sierra Club will cover traffic and parking issues; Richard Anthony will discuss waste; and Professor Joseli Macedo who is from Curitiba, Brazil, is currently on the faculty of the University of Florida, but who will be teleconferencing from India where she is doing research with a Fulbright-Nehru Award.
Navy Captain Marko Medved will also appear at the event to discuss the steps the military is taking to go green. Captain Medved is Operations Officer for Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest. He possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Ocean Engineering from the US Naval Academy and a Master’s in Construction Engineering and Management from MIT.
FSF co-chair, Patrick Hurley said, “We have a full spectrum from academia, industry, government, the military, labor, environmental groups, and experts at large to make sure we have input from all sectors as to how the San Diego/Tijuana/Imperial Counties area can improve environmentally and culturally.”  David Taylor of IBEW (the electrical workers union) will be on the energy panel. The two-day symposium will also include panels on food and water.

Event co-chair, Walter Meyer added, “As word spreads about the event, people are excited to come together with so many like-minded people to help change the region. People are still working together and collaborating as a result of having met at our last event in November, so we are eager to see what new partnerships may come from this FSF in March. ”
