Annual Sports Day at SCMS- COCHIN to kick-start from 24th Feb

Feb. 23, 2012 - PRLog -- The Annual Sports meet 2012 at SCMS-COCHIN, is scheduled to start from the Friday, 24th of February and will continue till the 3rd of March 2012. To evoke the sportsman spirit in every student at SCMS- COCHIN and to bring about the spirit to healthy compete in every participant, the prestigious educational institute has in store various sporting events like cricket, football, athletics, volley ball, and chess. Apart from just one event- Badminton, all the events are scheduled at the SCMS- COCHIN campus ground.

According to the various ‘houses’ formed out of student mentor groups prevalent at the SCMS-COCHIN under which all the students have been grouped, the participants will have to register their names for various events with the concerned faculty mentors and who in turn will file the teams with the designated faculty sports coordinators. Student registrations for all events were invited to be completed on or before February 16, 2012 for them to be eligible to participate. Names of the faculty mentors for each house, faculty sports coordinators, and the student sports coordinators are slated to be announced shortly with the details put up on the notice board at the institute.

The events at the Annual Sports meet include team as well as individual participation in events broadly totaling 11 in all. In the team participation events, the most popular ones that shall witness sturdy competition include cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, carom, chess, basketball and tug of war for boys and Throw ball, basket ball, badminton, carom, chess and tug of war for female participants.    

Athletics is another category where individual athletes will compete against others at events like 100 M race, 200 M race, 400 M race, 1500 M race, long jump and shot put for boys and 100 M race, 200 M race, long jump and shot put for girls. Fixtures for the various competitions is scheduled to be finalized by the 20th of February, 2012.

The professor- in- charge of SCMS- COCHIN  Sports events Shri R.T.R Varma ,  while elaborating on the upcoming sporting event said that, “We at SCMS group of institutions understand the importance of a healthy mind with a healthy body. Attaining knowledge is as important as exercising your body and soul. Thus annually we have a sports meet among the students who make us further proud of the skills and qualities they possess. The tackling strategies that the students make during sporting events, really fosters their management skills in the real business atmosphere. Giving them a chance to realize the capabilities in themselves, we at SCMS- COCHIN are happy to facilitate the opportunity to students.”

As the event is set to start off on the coming Friday, the expectations are high as has been the level of competition in the previous years. The participants eagerly prepare themselves to prove worthy on a ground other than academics. And the teachers as well, must eagerly wait for the participants to show the same enthusiasm in the classrooms.
