Suited and Booted: Rich Lewis to Mentor Student Veteran

Feb. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- The University of Colorado is scheduled to launch the Boots to Suits program designed to help veterans successfully transition from service members to business professionals and community leaders. The program will kick-off with a news conference on Thursday, February 23 at 10:30am with the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce President, Kelly Brough, and board of directors’ pilot mentors, Bill Lindsay and Richard Lewis. The program will also assist student veterans with obtaining a quality business suit putting their best foot forward in the job search process.

Created in partnership with the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, The University of Colorado of Denver’s Boots to Suits program supports service members with traditional internships and job placement, complemented by mentorship that pairs student veterans with business leaders who provide valuable insight, advice and contacts within the business community.  Richard Lewis, Air Force Veteran and President of RTL Networks, Inc., is proud be one of the first mentors for the program in hopes of helping to bridge opportunity gaps for veterans in the Denver metro community.

More than 700 student veterans are enrolled at CU Denver and that number is expected to triple in the next three years. The university has been recognized on the G.I. Jobs "Military Friendly Schools® List," putting it among the top 15 percent of 7,000 institutions nationwide for high-value education and a welcoming environment for veterans.  “Courage, Leadership, Work-Ethic, Integrity, Determination, and Ingenuity are all traits the military instills or enhances in everyone who puts on a uniform.  These are also skill-sets desired by Corporate America,” said Richard Lewis, “However, I remember the anxiety I faced when leaving the military were I had served for 14 years; which had been the only life I had known since graduating high school.  I am so pleased to see this program being offered by CU Denver and being supported by the Denver Metro Chamber, and I am honored to be one of the program’s first mentors”.
