Celebrity Plastic Surgery and Skin Care at the Academy Awards

Find out how Hollywood stars look their best as they take the red carpet runway at the Oscars

Feb. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- ‘Tis the season for glitz and glamour on the red carpet runway. The awards show season is upon us, and all of the intrigue at the Academy Awards begins with a grand entrance on the red carpet. It is here where Hollywood stars dress to impress and much is made in the media about how one appears as they exit their limousine and walk the fabled red carpet.  Every year jewelers loan multimillion dollar pieces of jewelry to celebrities, designers battle for the hottest star to wear their latest creation and make-up artists and cosmetic surgeons are busy perfecting the look of everyone who participates in this epic Hollywood event.

As a plastic surgeon in Las Vegas,  a town famous for its glitz and glamour, I am often asked how celebrities get their red carpet looks and what preparation they go through to look so good. This is one of the most important nights in Hollywood and there is a lot of pressure as over one billion people will be watching and waiting to see who looks the best...and worst. The stakes are high, and the stars always want to look their absolute
best as they make their entrance into the awards ceremony.

Here are a few of the cosmetic trade some Hollywood stars may use before the Academy Awards:

Skin Preparation
Before the makeup goes on, one has to prepare the skin it is applied to. Many of the stars already have a good skin care regimen. Some will come in for a little “maintenance” a couple of weeks before the event consisting of Botox to smooth out the wrinkles and facial fillers like Juvederm to fill in wrinkles and Sculptra for volumization of larger areas on the face. The week before the event most stars will also come in for a microdermabrasion, HydraFacial or superficial peel, just to get the perfect skin "glow."

Anti-Sweating
It is usually around 80 degrees outside of the Academy Awards on the red carpet. Add another 10 degrees for the lights and crowds, and factor in anticipation for the ceremony and you have all the makings for major perspiration and unwanted sweat stains. This is not what one hope for while wearing an umpteen thousand dollar designer gown. The solution? Botox in the arm pits. This is a very effective treatment for excessive sweating of the armpits, technically known as hyperhidrosis. Often people who have tried dry-sol, pads and other similar products will have good results from this treatment and can avoid embarrassing sweat stains.

Plastic Surgery
It is no secret that many Hollywood celebrities undergo plastic and cosmetic surgery. Some popular procedures among the stars include facelifts, necklifts, and liposuction. Plastic surgery is a bit more invasive than skin treatments, and if it is needed, it is usually done well ahead of the event with significant time to heal before the big day.

There you have it. Some “tricks of the trade” that can help your favorite star look their very best. The nice thing is these modalities are accessible to most everyone and they can help you look your best in your everyday life. Whether you are a Hollywood movie star up for an Oscar or a person who wants to feel the best they possibly can about their appearance, it is always a good idea to have a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon, where together goals can be discussed and proper treatment planned.

Here's to a successful Academy Awards on Sunday!
