Club America de Cali Team from Colombia to Compete in 2012 Continental Cup

In its seventh year, the AC Milan Continental Cup International Youth Sports Festival presented by Cleveland Clinic Sports Health will welcome Club America de Cali, a Colombian soccer club to the AC Milan Continental Cup tournament in Cleveland.
 
Feb. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- Cleveland, OH (February 22, 2012) – In its seventh year, the AC Milan Continental Cup International Youth Sports Festival presented by Cleveland Clinic Sports Health will welcome Club America de Cali, a Colombian football (soccer) club to the AC Milan Continental Cup tournament. Regarded as one of the most successful teams in Colombia, Club America de Cali is a professional caliber team with players who will likely go on to compete for the Colombian National Team or other European and international teams.

“As part of our international recruitment effort, we are committed to continue bringing quality teams to the Continental Cup. We want the tournament to keep growing and for the level of competition to draw other important teams from around the world,” stated Eddie Marles, AC Milan Youth Program Coordinator for North and Latin America.  

Club America de Cali, known as the Red Devils, has deep roots in the sphere of Colombian soccer. The club was officially founded in 1927, but its origins can be traced back to 1918. Club America de Cali holds 13 national championships with the most recent in 2008. They currently compete in Categoría Primera B.

Additional elite AC Milan Academy teams from Colombia, Curacao, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Aruba and the United States are also slated to participate.

This summer the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission will host the seventh annual Continental Cup International Youth Sports Festival presented by Cleveland Clinic Sports Health from July 8-12 in various venues across Northeast Ohio. It will comprise of three sports including the AC Milan Continental Cup (soccer), Cleveland Indians Charities Continental Cup (baseball), Cleveland Cavaliers Continental Cup (basketball) tournaments. Over 4,000 athletes from various countries are expected to participate this summer while pumping over $3 million into the region due to tourism dollars.
