Feb. 22, 2012 - PRLog -- David Chapple will join the Automotive Fine Arts Society (AFAS) as a guest artist at this year’s Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, which will take place March 8-11, under the sunny skies of Amelia Island, Fla. Along with must-attend silent auctions, book signings, an unforgettable great endurance drivers seminar and a yacht excursion, visitors will experience automotive art at its finest created by top talent from around the world. Exhibiting with the artist “A-list,” Chapple will showcase his 52"x12"x6" "GT40" sculpture, which captures the spirit of high performance and compliments the concours’s theme this year.

The work of art, which is hand painted acrylic with a clear coat on poplar wood, captures the story of the only American racecar to win overall at Le Mans. The GT40, a high performance sports car, was built by Ford in the 1960s and won the hearts of many around the world. Chapple’s 3-D technique and layered effect bring the sculpture to life, with the bright gulf racing colors to mesmerize the spectator.

"This GT40 sculpture is my rendition of speed in a three dimensional, physical form," said Chapple. “My drive to invent and create new work defines my purpose as an artist. With this piece, people will feel the impact of movement accelerating from the contoured layers of the sculpture.”

Graduating with a bachelor of fine arts from Hope College in Holland, Mich., Chapple was commissioned in his junior year of college to create automotive paintings, which hang in a permanent collection today.  As a result, he ventured into a career as an automotive fine artist nationally.

His upcoming shows and events will include: The Grand Classic Experience, Concours Elegance of America at St. John's and Concours d' Elegance Glenmoor Gathering, as well as selected fine art fairs and auctions. Chapple’s paintings and sculptures are displayed in museums and corporate collections worldwide.
