History:
In a quest to obtain the richest blend of tomatoes, peppers and spices, Herb’s searched for ingredients from a motley mix: busboys, restaurant owners, a border patrol officer, and even from Santa Anna himself — posthumously of course. The search commenced in 1982, and after four years of sweat and toil, palate pleasures, tasty “almosts,” and innumerable amalgamations, the mix was finalized. First impressions from tasters described the sauce as having a tinge of sweetness peculiar to salsa, yet all the more tasty with just enough kick to keep a cold beverage nearby.

The salsa became a hit with customers, and in 1991, with 300 ½ pints of Jimmy Don’s Picante Sauce given exclusively to Herb’s Paint and Body customers and friends, a prosperous picante future was in the making. The following year, 700 pints were produced enabling people to acquire more than one jar. This is where Jimmy Don’s worldwide fame began to take hold. People from as far as Germany and from destinations as disparate as Japan and Mexico began to request the famous blend. 4,000 jars were given in 2010, and the only way to get your hands on one these prized, Tex-Mex salsas is by being a friend, family member or customer of Herb’s Paint and Body. While the temptation to take the sauce retail has been strong, Herb’s has maintained the sauce’s select status. Becoming a customer is the only surefire way to own a jar.
