It is to note that the club signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Second Wind Foundation in USA to receive a 40 ft container containing some 40,000 books destined to public libraries in Lebanon.
Mansourieh Municipality will try to obtain from the Council of Ministers a gift acceptance to be able to retrieve the books from the pier upon their arrival.
A couple of years ago, another member of the club, Rotarian Mikhael Saneh, offered, for the same public library (under formation), through the Rotary Club of Saintes in France, a donation of few hundred books in French. Rotarians Rony Farra and Philip Skaff donated at the time the cost of shipping. The book shelves of the library were a donation of Farra Design Center.
Rotarians in Lebanon had brought in the past gifts for the Ministry of Health. Dr Mohamed Jawad Khalifeh received 3 ambulances for his ministry, a donation from Rotary Italy, while Dr. Karam Karam received 28 dialysis machines, a donation from Rotarians in USA for the Ministry of Health. Both gifts were brought through the initiative of Rony Farra, presently a member of Rotary Club Beirut Cedars.
Rotary Club Beirut Cedars is a club chartered in 2010. He is presently campaigning for drug awareness among youth and working to install new water filtration systems in some 80 public schools throughout Lebanon at the tune of over $200,000 with the help of other Rotary Clubs in Lebanon, clubs in different countries of the world and The Rotary Foundation.
